THE GRIMOIRE / SEX MAGICK

The ash circle desire rite

An ash circle working with residue, endings, and a boundary drawn from what has already burned to work directly with erotic desire, shame, hunger, fantasy, power, and release.

Meaning and practice

The ash circle form approaches work directly with erotic desire, shame, hunger, fantasy, power, and release through residue, endings, and a boundary drawn from what has already burned. An ash circle uses the past as a perimeter rather than a destination. That symbolism gives the rite its limit: the object can expose a decision, but only the following action can carry it into life.

Place the failed pattern outside the circle and the lesson inside it. That demand is what distinguishes this ash circle rite from another desire rite: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a pinch of clean cold ash or ground charcoal, not on a generic promise of change.

Sources behind this working

The Golden Bough: A Study of Magic and Religion

James George Frazer · 1922 abridged edition

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a pinch of clean cold ash or ground charcoal. An ash circle uses the past as a perimeter rather than a destination. This working applies that documented motif to work directly with erotic desire, shame, hunger, fantasy, power, and release; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • A pinch of clean cold ash or ground charcoal
  • A teaspoon
  • Two sheets of scrap paper
  • A damp cleaning cloth
  • A pencil
  • A washable mirror
  • Body-safe lubricant
  • A clean washcloth

The ritual

  1. Use only completely cold, clean ash or artist charcoal. Work over scrap paper and keep the damp cloth nearby to contain dust. Arrange the workspace specifically for this desire rite, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. Write the desire, shame, fantasy, or refusal you are willing to look at tonight; leave everything else outside the session. Keep this question visible while you work: “What can the remains protect you from repeating?”
  3. Use the ash to draw a small closed circle on a separate scrap of paper. Decide whether a pinch of clean cold ash or ground charcoal represents appetite, limit, or aftermath in this rite, then place it where it can be reached without fumbling.
  4. Place the mirror safely before touching begins. Use the lubricant as needed and build arousal without forcing climax; meet your own gaze at the chosen threshold and say “My desire is mine to name, give, withhold, or end.” Wash the mirror and place the failed pattern outside the circle and the lesson inside it.
  5. Fold the ashed scrap inward and dispose of it in an outdoor bin. Decide whether the desire needs expression, negotiation, distance, or burial, then take the honest next step.
