The cedar threshold desire rite
A cedar threshold working with the line between sanctuary and exposure to work directly with erotic desire, shame, hunger, fantasy, power, and release.
Meaning and practice
The cedar threshold form approaches work directly with erotic desire, shame, hunger, fantasy, power, and release through the line between sanctuary and exposure. Cedar at a threshold treats the boundary as a living agreement that must be renewed. That symbolism gives the rite its limit: the object can expose a decision, but only the following action can carry it into life.
Write one rule for entry, attention, or contact that you can enforce without explanation. That demand is what distinguishes this cedar threshold rite from another desire rite: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a small cedar sprig, not on a generic promise of change.

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a small cedar sprig. Cedar at a threshold treats the boundary as a living agreement that must be renewed. This working applies that documented motif to work directly with erotic desire, shame, hunger, fantasy, power, and release; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- A small cedar sprig
- A 30 cm length of undyed cotton twine
- A blank luggage tag and pencil
- A clean cloth
- A washable mirror
- Body-safe lubricant
- A clean washcloth
The ritual
- Wipe the chosen doorway and let the frame dry. Tie the luggage tag loosely to the cedar so it can be removed without damaging the wood. Arrange the workspace specifically for this desire rite, removing anything that will not be used.
- Write the desire, shame, fantasy, or refusal you are willing to look at tonight; leave everything else outside the session. Keep this question visible while you work: “Where does access end, and who has been allowed to cross that line?”
- Lay the cedar sprig across the written intention with its tip pointing away from you. Decide whether a small cedar sprig represents appetite, limit, or aftermath in this rite, then place it where it can be reached without fumbling.
- Place the mirror safely before touching begins. Use the lubricant as needed and build arousal without forcing climax; meet your own gaze at the chosen threshold and say “My desire is mine to name, give, withhold, or end.” Wash the mirror and write one rule for entry, attention, or contact that you can enforce without explanation.
- Stand outside the threshold for three breaths, then cross it deliberately before continuing. Keep the pause within this desire rite by repeating once: “My desire is mine to name, give, withhold, or end”
- Move the sprig to a private place near the doorway, or compost it when the working is complete. Decide whether the desire needs expression, negotiation, distance, or burial, then take the honest next step.
