The clay seal dismissal

A clay seal working with a decision impressed deeply enough to keep its shape to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention.

Meaning and practice

The clay seal form approaches remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention through a decision impressed deeply enough to keep its shape. Soft clay records pressure before it hardens, preserving the exact point of contact. That symbolism gives the rite its limit: the object can expose a decision, but only the following action can carry it into life.

Seal only the part you can promise; leave the uncertain part visibly unmarked. That demand is what distinguishes this clay seal rite from another dismissal: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a small piece of air-dry clay, not on a generic promise of change.

The Book of Talismans, Amulets and Zodiacal Gems

William Thomas and Kate Pavitt · 1922

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a small piece of air-dry clay. Soft clay records pressure before it hardens, preserving the exact point of contact. This working applies that documented motif to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • A small piece of air-dry clay
  • A smooth tile or washable plate
  • A wooden toothpick
  • Two paper slips and pencil
  • A plain paper bag
  • A removable black label

The ritual

  1. Knead the clay on the tile until it no longer cracks at the edges. Keep the toothpick beside it for marking only, never for piercing skin. Arrange the workspace specifically for this dismissal, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. Write the influence on the label rather than on the bag; this keeps removal possible and deliberate. Keep this question visible while you work: “What commitment deserves a seal, and what remains too uncertain to close?”
  3. Press one fingertip into the clay and set the resulting seal beside the paper. Move a small piece of air-dry clay one deliberate step toward the exit and leave its former position empty.
  4. Stick the label inside, close the bag once, and say “Your place is elsewhere; this space returns to me.” Remove and destroy the label before reusing the bag. Seal only the part you can promise; leave the uncertain part visibly unmarked.
  5. Let the clay dry and store it with the intention until the work is complete. Move the written influence toward an exit, recycle it, and change one habit that invited its return.
