THE GRIMOIRE / BANISHING

The open hand dismissal

An open hand working with agency, touch, and responsibility resting in your own hand to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention.

Meaning and practice

This dismissal is organized around agency, touch, and responsibility resting in your own hand. A traced palm distinguishes personal reach from fantasy, blame, and borrowed duty. The open hand action therefore asks for judgment, not passive belief: “Which part of this matter is actually yours to do?”

Place one action inside the outline and everything outside your control beyond the fingers. That demand is what distinguishes this open hand rite from another dismissal: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a paper tracing of your hand, not on a generic promise of change.

Sources behind this working

The Book of Talismans, Amulets and Zodiacal Gems

William Thomas and Kate Pavitt · 1922

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a paper tracing of your hand. A traced palm distinguishes personal reach from fantasy, blame, and borrowed duty. This working applies that documented motif to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • A paper tracing of your hand
  • A large sheet of paper
  • A washable pencil or crayon
  • A ruler
  • A hand broom
  • A dustpan

The ritual

  1. Trace your hand with fingers comfortably spread. Draw a line across the wrist to separate what you can do from what lies beyond your reach. Arrange the workspace specifically for this dismissal, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. Record the influence you are dismissing and what will occupy its place on the tag, card, label, or paper provided. Put the unwanted influence in one sentence and place the card at the far edge of the work surface. Keep this question visible while you work: “Which part of this matter is actually yours to do?”
  3. Place your palm over its paper outline and read the intention once. Move a paper tracing of your hand one deliberate step toward the exit and leave its former position empty.
  4. Sweep the card into the dustpan without sweeping ritual objects, say “Your place is elsewhere; this space returns to me,” and place one action inside the outline and everything outside your control beyond the fingers.
  5. Write the next practical action in the center of the traced palm and keep it visible. Move the written influence toward an exit, recycle it, and change one habit that invited its return.
