THE GRIMOIRE / BANISHING

The sealed envelope dismissal

A sealed envelope working with secrecy with an appointed ending to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention.

Meaning and practice

A dismissal creates a vacancy. Choose what will replace the removed habit, object, contact, or pattern, and close the route by which it previously returned. Here, the distinctive work belongs to a small envelope. An unsealed envelope holds a truth privately while preserving the choice to disclose it. Its meaning becomes useful only when the question is answered directly: “What deserves confidentiality, and what uses secrecy to escape accountability?”

Name who should know, who should not, and when the seal will be reconsidered. That demand is what distinguishes this sealed envelope rite from another dismissal: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a small envelope, not on a generic promise of change.

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a small envelope. An unsealed envelope holds a truth privately while preserving the choice to disclose it. This working applies that documented motif to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • A small envelope
  • A second envelope
  • Two sheets of writing paper
  • A pencil
  • A calendar or diary
  • A bowl of clean water
  • A pouring jug

The ritual

  1. Date both envelopes. Mark one PRIVATE and the other READY TO NAME before writing anything that will go inside. Arrange the workspace specifically for this dismissal, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. Record the influence you are dismissing and what will occupy its place on the tag, card, label, or paper provided. Name what is leaving and the habit that previously let it return. Keep this question visible while you work: “What deserves confidentiality, and what uses secrecy to escape accountability?”
  3. Fold the written intention once and place it inside the envelope without sealing it yet. Move a small envelope one deliberate step toward the exit and leave its former position empty.
  4. Pour water slowly from bowl to jug while saying “Your place is elsewhere; this space returns to me.” Stop when the bowl is empty and name who should know, who should not, and when the seal will be reconsidered.
  5. Seal the envelope after naming the next action and date it for review. Move the written influence toward an exit, recycle it, and change one habit that invited its return.
