The white ribbon dismissal
A white ribbon working with soft restraint and the possibility of reopening to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention.
Meaning and practice
The white ribbon form approaches remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention through soft restraint and the possibility of reopening. A loose ribbon binds by consent and can be opened without damage. That symbolism gives the rite its limit: the object can expose a decision, but only the following action can carry it into life.
Define a temporary limit and give it a clear review date. That demand is what distinguishes this white ribbon rite from another dismissal: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a length of white ribbon, not on a generic promise of change.
Sources behind this working
The Golden Bough: A Study of Magic and Religion
James George Frazer · 1922 abridged edition
The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a length of white ribbon. A loose ribbon binds by consent and can be opened without damage. This working applies that documented motif to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- A length of white ribbon
- A ruler
- Blunt scissors
- A narrow strip of paper and pencil
- A plain paper bag
- A removable black label
The ritual
- Cut a ribbon length equal to the distance from wrist to elbow. Trim frayed edges and lay the paper strip parallel to it. Arrange the workspace specifically for this dismissal, removing anything that will not be used.
- Write the influence on the label rather than on the bag; this keeps removal possible and deliberate. Keep this question visible while you work: “What needs to be held without being imprisoned?”
- Fold the paper into a narrow strip and wrap the ribbon around it three times. Move a length of white ribbon one deliberate step toward the exit and leave its former position empty.
- Stick the label inside, close the bag once, and say “Your place is elsewhere; this space returns to me.” Remove and destroy the label before reusing the bag. Define a temporary limit and give it a clear review date.
- Tie one loose bow, keep it overnight, then open the bow and store the ribbon. Move the written influence toward an exit, recycle it, and change one habit that invited its return.
