The window lantern dismissal
A window lantern working with watching, being watched, and the lure of public display to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention.
Meaning and practice
The central tension is watching, being watched, and the lure of public display. A window light sits between private chamber and public view. For this reason, the rite does not end with the spoken charge. Its result is measured by whether you can answer “Would the intention survive without witnesses?” with a concrete choice.
Decide what belongs on display, what belongs in confidence, and why. That demand is what distinguishes this window lantern rite from another dismissal: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a battery-powered tea light, not on a generic promise of change.

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a battery-powered tea light. A window light sits between private chamber and public view. This working applies that documented motif to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- A battery-powered tea light
- A small mirror tile
- A card and pencil
- A ten-minute timer
- A length of white chalk
- A damp cloth
The ritual
- Test the battery light, clean the window ledge, and angle the mirror so it reflects inward rather than toward neighboring windows. Arrange the workspace specifically for this dismissal, removing anything that will not be used.
- Draw a short route from the ritual object to the edge of the working surface and ask: “Would the intention survive without witnesses?”
- Set the tea light beside the intention near a window and switch it on. Move a battery-powered tea light one deliberate step toward the exit and leave its former position empty.
- Move the written influence along the route, speak “Your place is elsewhere; this space returns to me,” then wipe the route away from you. Decide what belongs on display, what belongs in confidence, and why.
- Switch off the light after ten minutes and store it for the next working. Move the written influence toward an exit, recycle it, and change one habit that invited its return.
