The sun coin restraint
A sun coin working with exchange, value, and the story attached to payment to restrain a habit, influence, or behavior without directing harm at a person.
Meaning and practice
The sun coin form approaches restrain a habit, influence, or behavior without directing harm at a person through exchange, value, and the story attached to payment. A common coin carries both practical value and countless previous exchanges. That symbolism gives the rite its limit: the object can expose a decision, but only the following action can carry it into life.
Set a real limit in money, time, or attention before asking for gain. That demand is what distinguishes this sun coin rite from another restraint: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a clean coin, not on a generic promise of change.
Sources behind this working
The Book of Talismans, Amulets and Zodiacal Gems
William Thomas and Kate Pavitt · 1922
The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a clean coin. A common coin carries both practical value and countless previous exchanges. This working applies that documented motif to restrain a habit, influence, or behavior without directing harm at a person; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- A clean coin
- A square of yellow cloth
- A ledger card and pencil
- A short length of elastic cord
- A ruler
The ritual
- Wash and dry the coin, then place it on the yellow cloth in daylight. Use ordinary room light if direct sun would overheat the surface. Arrange the workspace specifically for this restraint, removing anything that will not be used.
- Measure the cord at rest and write the maximum strain you will tolerate in ordinary language. Keep this question visible while you work: “What are you willing to spend, and what must never be bought?”
- Place the coin in a patch of daylight, then set it over the written intention. Set a clean coin on the permitted side of the written limit; the conduct being restrained stays beyond it.
- Stretch the cord no farther than twice its resting length, release it, and speak “This goes no farther than the boundary I set.” Set a real limit in money, time, or attention before asking for gain.
- Carry the coin for a day before returning it to ordinary circulation. Keep the focus on conduct, then enforce the written boundary in ordinary life.
