The bay wreath clearing
A bay wreath working with recognition, status, and the burden of being seen as successful to clear a stale atmosphere and mark a deliberate fresh beginning.
Meaning and practice
The central tension is recognition, status, and the burden of being seen as successful. Bay leaves evoke honor while their open circle leaves room to step away. For this reason, the rite does not end with the spoken charge. Its result is measured by whether you can answer “Whose approval crowns this goal, and what does the crown demand?” with a concrete choice.
Define success without titles, applause, or comparison. That demand is what distinguishes this bay wreath rite from another clearing: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by three dried bay leaves, not on a generic promise of change.

The Folk-lore of Plants

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as three dried bay leaves. Bay leaves evoke honor while their open circle leaves room to step away. This working applies that documented motif to clear a stale atmosphere and mark a deliberate fresh beginning; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- Three dried bay leaves
- A shallow plate
- A paper envelope
- A green pencil
- A clean empty jar
- A strip of masking tape
The ritual
- Check the dried leaves for mold and discard any damaged leaf. Arrange the three sound leaves on the plate without crushing them. Arrange the workspace specifically for this clearing, removing anything that will not be used.
- List no more than three residues of what you are clearing and what you want the space to hold instead; stop before the list becomes rumination. Keep this question visible while you work: “Whose approval crowns this goal, and what does the crown demand?”
- Arrange the leaves in a small open circle around the intention. Lift three dried bay leaves once and set it on the clean side of the arrangement, leaving the named residue behind.
- Tape the list around the jar facing inward, say “What is spent leaves; what is clear remains,” then remove and recycle the list instead of storing it. Define success without titles, applause, or comparison.
- Place the leaves in an envelope for a week, then compost them. Open a window if practical and clean one small part of the space.
