THE GRIMOIRE / CLEANSING

The window lantern clearing

A window lantern working with watching, being watched, and the lure of public display to clear a stale atmosphere and mark a deliberate fresh beginning.

Meaning and practice

The central tension is watching, being watched, and the lure of public display. A window light sits between private chamber and public view. For this reason, the rite does not end with the spoken charge. Its result is measured by whether you can answer “Would the intention survive without witnesses?” with a concrete choice.

Decide what belongs on display, what belongs in confidence, and why. That demand is what distinguishes this window lantern rite from another clearing: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a battery-powered tea light, not on a generic promise of change.

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a battery-powered tea light. A window light sits between private chamber and public view. This working applies that documented motif to clear a stale atmosphere and mark a deliberate fresh beginning; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • A battery-powered tea light
  • A small mirror tile
  • A card and pencil
  • A ten-minute timer
  • A clean empty jar
  • A strip of masking tape

The ritual

  1. Test the battery light, clean the window ledge, and angle the mirror so it reflects inward rather than toward neighboring windows. Arrange the workspace specifically for this clearing, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. List no more than three residues of what you are clearing and what you want the space to hold instead; stop before the list becomes rumination. Keep this question visible while you work: “Would the intention survive without witnesses?”
  3. Set the tea light beside the intention near a window and switch it on. Lift a battery-powered tea light once and set it on the clean side of the arrangement, leaving the named residue behind.
  4. Tape the list around the jar facing inward, say “What is spent leaves; what is clear remains,” then remove and recycle the list instead of storing it. Decide what belongs on display, what belongs in confidence, and why.
  5. Switch off the light after ten minutes and store it for the next working. Open a window if practical and clean one small part of the space.
