The bay wreath fortune
A bay wreath working with recognition, status, and the burden of being seen as successful to open your attention to useful opportunities and timely choices.
Meaning and practice
Fortune favors attention as much as chance. Decide in advance what a useful opening would look like, what risks you will avoid, and which prepared action will let you answer it. Here, the distinctive work belongs to three dried bay leaves. Bay leaves evoke honor while their open circle leaves room to step away. Its meaning becomes useful only when the question is answered directly: “Whose approval crowns this goal, and what does the crown demand?”
Define success without titles, applause, or comparison. That demand is what distinguishes this bay wreath rite from another fortune: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by three dried bay leaves, not on a generic promise of change.

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as three dried bay leaves. Bay leaves evoke honor while their open circle leaves room to step away. This working applies that documented motif to open your attention to useful opportunities and timely choices; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- Three dried bay leaves
- A shallow plate
- A paper envelope
- A green pencil
- A coin suitable for tossing
- A folded cloth
The ritual
- Check the dried leaves for mold and discard any damaged leaf. Arrange the three sound leaves on the plate without crushing them. Arrange the workspace specifically for this fortune, removing anything that will not be used.
- Record the opportunity you hope to recognize and how you will respond on the tag, card, label, or paper provided. Give the coin’s sides two actions, not yes and no. Both actions must be safe and useful. Keep this question visible while you work: “Whose approval crowns this goal, and what does the crown demand?”
- Arrange the leaves in a small open circle around the intention. Change the direction of three dried bay leaves without looking, then use its new orientation to choose where you will seek an opening.
- Toss the coin onto the cloth once, say “I notice the opening and meet it prepared,” and carry out the indicated experiment. Define success without titles, applause, or comparison.
- Place the leaves in an envelope for a week, then compost them. Carry the token for a day and act when a suitable opportunity appears.
