The clear water fortune
A clear water working with clarity disturbed by the slightest contact to open your attention to useful opportunities and timely choices.
Meaning and practice
The central tension is clarity disturbed by the slightest contact. Clear water reveals every ripple and refuses the fiction of unaffected observation. For this reason, the rite does not end with the spoken charge. Its result is measured by whether you can answer “What appears calm only because nobody has touched it?” with a concrete choice.
Name the intervention that would test whether the situation is truly stable. That demand is what distinguishes this clear water rite from another fortune: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a bowl of clean water, not on a generic promise of change.
Sources behind this working
Folklore of Scottish Lochs and Springs
James M. Mackinlay · 1893
The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a bowl of clean water. Clear water reveals every ripple and refuses the fiction of unaffected observation. This working applies that documented motif to open your attention to useful opportunities and timely choices; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- A bowl of clean water
- A small pouring jug
- A lint-free towel
- A card and pencil
- A pocket-sized calendar
- A green paper clip
The ritual
- Rinse the bowl, fill it from the jug, and wait until every visible ripple has stopped before writing. Arrange the workspace specifically for this fortune, removing anything that will not be used.
- Record the opportunity you hope to recognize and how you will respond on the tag, card, label, or paper provided. Choose a seven-day window in which you can respond to the opportunity you hope to recognize and how you will respond without forcing it. Keep this question visible while you work: “What appears calm only because nobody has touched it?”
- Place the paper beside the bowl and circle one finger above the water without touching it. Change the direction of a bowl of clean water without looking, then use its new orientation to choose where you will seek an opening.
- Clip the window’s first day, say “I notice the opening and meet it prepared,” and record one sign that would justify action. Name the intervention that would test whether the situation is truly stable.
- Pour the water into a houseplant or outdoor soil and dry the bowl. Carry the token for a day and act when a suitable opportunity appears.
