THE GRIMOIRE / LUCK

The glass bell fortune

A glass bell working with voice, silence, and the moment an echo becomes an answer to open your attention to useful opportunities and timely choices.

Meaning and practice

Fortune favors attention as much as chance. Decide in advance what a useful opening would look like, what risks you will avoid, and which prepared action will let you answer it. Here, the distinctive work belongs to a small glass and a metal spoon. The glass tone makes absence audible when the ringing stops. Its meaning becomes useful only when the question is answered directly: “What have you said repeatedly without waiting for the silence afterward?”

Ask the central question once, then record what arrives during one full minute of silence. That demand is what distinguishes this glass bell rite from another fortune: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a small glass and a metal spoon, not on a generic promise of change.

Sources behind this working

Domestic Folk-lore

T. F. Thiselton-Dyer · 1881

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a small glass and a metal spoon. The glass tone makes absence audible when the ringing stops. This working applies that documented motif to open your attention to useful opportunities and timely choices; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • A small glass and a metal spoon
  • A folded tea towel
  • A card and pencil
  • A coin suitable for tossing
  • A folded cloth

The ritual

  1. Set the empty glass on the folded towel and test one very light tap. Use less force if the glass shifts or the note sounds harsh. Arrange the workspace specifically for this fortune, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. Record the opportunity you hope to recognize and how you will respond on the tag, card, label, or paper provided. Give the coin’s sides two actions, not yes and no. Both actions must be safe and useful. Keep this question visible while you work: “What have you said repeatedly without waiting for the silence afterward?”
  3. Place the glass beside the paper and tap it gently once with the spoon. Change the direction of a small glass and a metal spoon without looking, then use its new orientation to choose where you will seek an opening.
  4. Toss the coin onto the cloth once, say “I notice the opening and meet it prepared,” and carry out the indicated experiment. Ask the central question once, then record what arrives during one full minute of silence.
  5. Wait until the sound has faded completely, then wash and put away the glass. Carry the token for a day and act when a suitable opportunity appears.
