The spring cup fortune
A spring cup working with replenishment received through the body to open your attention to useful opportunities and timely choices.
Meaning and practice
Fresh water turns renewal into an act of taking in rather than striving outward. In a fortune, this turns a cup of fresh drinking water into a test of replenishment received through the body. The object matters because it forces an answer through placement, pressure, sound, or movement rather than through wishful language.
Name one bodily need and meet it before adding another demand. That demand is what distinguishes this spring cup rite from another fortune: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a cup of fresh drinking water, not on a generic promise of change.
Sources behind this working
Folklore of Scottish Lochs and Springs
James M. Mackinlay · 1893
The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a cup of fresh drinking water. Fresh water turns renewal into an act of taking in rather than striving outward. This working applies that documented motif to open your attention to useful opportunities and timely choices; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- A cup of fresh drinking water
- A washable coaster
- A card and pencil
- A six-sided die
- A green token
The ritual
- Use a clean cup reserved from the start for drinking. Fill it with fresh water and keep every other ritual object outside its rim. Arrange the workspace specifically for this fortune, removing anything that will not be used.
- List six reasonable places where the opportunity you hope to recognize and how you will respond might appear; include no outcome you would be unwilling to accept. Keep this question visible while you work: “What would restoration feel like before it could be measured?”
- Set the cup beside the paper and read the intention while watching the surface become still. Change the direction of a cup of fresh drinking water without looking, then use its new orientation to choose where you will seek an opening.
- Roll once, move the token to that numbered option, and say “I notice the opening and meet it prepared.” Name one bodily need and meet it before adding another demand.
- Drink the water if it remained clean and untouched, then wash the cup. Carry the token for a day and act when a suitable opportunity appears.
