The garden path abundance
A garden path working with choice among routes that cannot all be taken to focus attention on sustainable resources and the next practical step.
Meaning and practice
The garden path form approaches focus attention on sustainable resources and the next practical step through choice among routes that cannot all be taken. Five stones make indecision spatial: every route has direction and a cost. That symbolism gives the rite its limit: the object can expose a decision, but only the following action can carry it into life.
Give each possible route a first consequence and remove the route you already know is false. That demand is what distinguishes this garden path rite from another abundance: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by five small garden pebbles, not on a generic promise of change.
Sources behind this working
Folklore of Scottish Lochs and Springs
James M. Mackinlay · 1893
The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as five small garden pebbles. Five stones make indecision spatial: every route has direction and a cost. This working applies that documented motif to focus attention on sustainable resources and the next practical step; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.
What you’ll need
- Five small garden pebbles
- A shallow tray
- A strip of paper and pencil
- A small brush
- Five dry beans
- A small bowl
The ritual
- Brush soil from the pebbles and arrange them along the empty edge of the tray. Draw a beginning and destination on the paper strip. Arrange the workspace specifically for this abundance, removing anything that will not be used.
- Record one concrete resource goal and the next action that supports it on the tag, card, label, or paper provided. Assign the beans to money, time, skill, tools, and help. Remove any resource irrelevant to the goal. Keep this question visible while you work: “Which path serves desire, and which merely avoids discomfort?”
- Arrange the pebbles in a curving path that ends at the written intention. Align five small garden pebbles with the written quantity, date, or resource so the desired abundance remains measurable.
- Move the scarcest bean closest to the object, say “What I tend with care has room to grow,” and give each possible route a first consequence and remove the route you already know is false.
- Walk two fingers along the path, then return the pebbles outdoors. Take the written financial, work, or household action within one day.
