The rain jar abundance

A rain jar working with containment and the pressure of feelings held too long to focus attention on sustainable resources and the next practical step.

Meaning and practice

The rain jar form approaches focus attention on sustainable resources and the next practical step through containment and the pressure of feelings held too long. Rainwater in a closed jar turns weather into a contained emotional measure. That symbolism gives the rite its limit: the object can expose a decision, but only the following action can carry it into life.

Separate what needs quiet from what needs release, and label each plainly. That demand is what distinguishes this rain jar rite from another abundance: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a closed jar of rainwater, not on a generic promise of change.

Sources behind this working

Folklore of Scottish Lochs and Springs

James M. Mackinlay · 1893

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a closed jar of rainwater. Rainwater in a closed jar turns weather into a contained emotional measure. This working applies that documented motif to focus attention on sustainable resources and the next practical step; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • A closed jar of rainwater
  • A small saucer
  • A removable paper label and pencil
  • A dry cloth
  • Five dry beans
  • A small bowl

The ritual

  1. Check that the jar is clean, tightly closed, and free from cracks. Dry its outside, write the intention on the label, and place the labeled jar on the saucer. Arrange the workspace specifically for this abundance, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. Record one concrete resource goal and the next action that supports it on the tag, card, label, or paper provided. Assign the beans to money, time, skill, tools, and help. Remove any resource irrelevant to the goal. Keep this question visible while you work: “What settles when left alone, and what stagnates?”
  3. Set the jar over the written intention and watch the water settle. Align a closed jar of rainwater with the written quantity, date, or resource so the desired abundance remains measurable.
  4. Move the scarcest bean closest to the object, say “What I tend with care has room to grow,” and separate what needs quiet from what needs release, and label each plainly.
  5. Pour the water onto outdoor soil and rinse the jar. Take the written financial, work, or household action within one day.
