The frozen tongue
Still cruel speech by fixing its words in water and cold.
What you’ll need
- A strip of paper
- A pencil
- A freezer-safe cup
- Water
The ritual
- Write the harmful phrase or behavior on the paper, leaving out names and identifying details.
- Fold the paper inward until the writing is hidden and place it in the cup.
- Cover it with water and say, “Be still before you reach me.”
- Freeze the cup until the conflict has cooled, then thaw it, tear up the paper, and discard it.
