The bell jar dismissal

A bell jar working with an echo captured, contained, and deliberately released to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention.

Meaning and practice

The central tension is an echo captured, contained, and deliberately released. Bell and jar give an echo a temporary vessel without confusing it for a permanent voice. For this reason, the rite does not end with the spoken charge. Its result is measured by whether you can answer “Which message keeps reverberating after its source is gone?” with a concrete choice.

Write the repeated message, identify its original speaker, and answer it in your own words. That demand is what distinguishes this bell jar rite from another dismissal: its conclusion depends on the specific problem carried by a small bell and an empty jar, not on a generic promise of change.

Domestic Folk-lore

The source records historical uses and meanings of objects in the same family as a small bell and an empty jar. Bell and jar give an echo a temporary vessel without confusing it for a permanent voice. This working applies that documented motif to remove an unwanted influence from your own space, habits, or attention; its wording and sequence are original to Okkult.

What you’ll need

  • A small bell and an empty jar
  • A folded cloth
  • A paper strip and pencil
  • A timer
  • A length of white chalk
  • A damp cloth

The ritual

  1. Test the bell softly and place the empty jar on the cloth. Set the timer for one minute so listening has a defined end. Arrange the workspace specifically for this dismissal, removing anything that will not be used.
  2. Draw a short route from the ritual object to the edge of the working surface and ask: “Which message keeps reverberating after its source is gone?”
  3. Ring the bell once over the open jar, then place the lid loosely on top. Move a small bell and an empty jar one deliberate step toward the exit and leave its former position empty.
  4. Move the written influence along the route, speak “Your place is elsewhere; this space returns to me,” then wipe the route away from you. Write the repeated message, identify its original speaker, and answer it in your own words.
  5. Open the jar after the sound has faded and return both objects to their places. Move the written influence toward an exit, recycle it, and change one habit that invited its return.
