THE GRIMOIRE / CURSES

The walnut-shell confinement

Confine a small but persistent nuisance within boundaries no larger than it deserves.

What you’ll need

  • Two clean walnut-shell halves
  • A tiny strip of paper
  • Cotton thread

The ritual

  1. Write the nuisance in the fewest possible words on the paper.
  2. Fold the strip and place it between the empty shell halves.
  3. Bind the shell closed with thread, keeping the knot tight and the words unseen.
  4. Store it at the back of a cupboard for a month, then open it and reassess whether the matter still deserves space.
